The parking rules in Spain
Parking Regulations in Mallorca
Important Information for Guests and Property Owners
At SM Holiday Properties, we prioritize a comfortable and trouble-free stay for our guests, as well as responsible property management for our owners. For this reason, we consider it essential to provide clear information about parking regulations in Spain and, in particular, in Mallorca.
Lack of awareness of road markings may result in fines, vehicle towing, or unnecessary inconvenience during your stay.
Below, we outline the main road markings related to parking.
Yellow Zigzag Marking
A yellow zigzag marking indicates that parking is strictly prohibited in the marked area.
It is commonly found at:
-
Bus stops
-
Loading and unloading zones
-
Emergency access areas
-
Reserved access points
In these areas, parking and stopping are not permitted, except for authorized use.
Continuous Yellow Line
A continuous yellow line painted on the curb or along the edge of the roadway means:
Stopping and parking are prohibited.
This restriction applies along the entire length of the line and on the side where it is painted. It is one of the strictest parking prohibitions.
Broken Yellow Line
A broken yellow line indicates that:
Parking is prohibited, but stopping is permitted, unless additional signage states otherwise.
Time restrictions may apply as indicated by vertical road signs.
Yellow Box Junction
The yellow cross-hatched box marking indicates that drivers must not stop if doing so would obstruct cross traffic.
It is commonly used at:
-
Intersections
-
Garage entrances
-
High-traffic areas
Even if the traffic light is green, drivers must not enter the junction unless there is enough space to exit it completely.
Blue Zone – Regulated Parking
Blue markings designate regulated parking areas (ORA).
Key features:
-
Parking permitted
-
Time-limited
-
Payment required during regulated hours
In tourist municipalities of Mallorca, especially during high season, these zones are common. Always check the posted time restrictions.
